As I've gotten older (and can buy things without getting my parent's approval), I've found that sometimes it's o.k. to make an investment in a
timeless article of clothing or accessory. I've put together a list of 7 things I deem "O.K." to invest in, and actually encourage one purchasing. Doesn't have to be these exact brands of items, but you get the idea...
1.
Black leather jacket - I like this one from
Rag and Bone because the hardware is not overwhelming or shiny, which allows you to wear both gold and silver jewelry with it. No limits.
2.
Black boots - These from
Alexander Wang are simple, timeless and flat enough to be able to do some city walking.
3.
Watch - This
Michele watch is the one. I like a round face and two tone detail, as you can layer it with any other bracelet you have no matter the metal.
4.
Denim - Dark wash with no distressing or whiskers, medium rise (for comfort), skinny jeans are ideal. No one will know if you wear these everyday because they're so discreetly wonderful. No jeans fit better than
Genetic Denim.
5.
Sunglasses - I really don't know anyone who doesn't look good in aviators. If you're going to do it, keep it OG and go with the gold
Ray-Bans.
6.
Handbag - I have to bring it back to my man, Mr. Wang, on this one. The "
Rocco Duffel" has become *drumroll please* the longest I've ever used any handbag without changing (besides for nighttime going out purposes). Since getting it almost 3 years ago, I've never fully taken my things out of it; a record. Although extremely heavy, it's still one of my favorite handbags ever made. I know that's a bold statement, but I stand behind it.
7.
Cashmere sweater - Cardigan, pullover, I don't really care. This one from
J.Crew is what's good. I wish it was a little more heather grey and a little less oatmeal but beggers can't be choosers... after all, it's cashmere. The boyfriend fit is key also...
I don't support anyone buying these all in one day, or even in one year, but over time, I feel this a good collection to have. I'm still working on it myself.
